Job Description
Specialty Steel Fabricator / Certified Welder
Grand Forks, ND Full-Time $50,000 – $90,000 / year DOE 2+ Years Experience Required
ABOUT THE ROLE
LucentHD is looking for a skilled Specialty Steel Fabricator and Certified Welder to join our team in Grand Forks, ND. This is primarily a shop-based position where you'll be fabricating the custom steel and aluminum frames, mounting systems, and structural support structures that hold massive LED scoreboards and video display boards in some of the most iconic sports venues in North America.
You'll be building structures that end up in NFL stadiums, NBA arenas, NHL facilities, MLB ballparks, NASCAR venues, and major NCAA programs. If you take pride in precision craftsmanship and want to see your work on national television every weekend, we'd love to meet you.
For those interested, there are occasional opportunities to travel to project sites for installation support — but this is entirely optional, not a requirement of the role.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Fabricate custom steel and aluminum frames, support structures, and mounting systems for large-format LED video display boards
Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and shop fabrication specifications
Perform MIG (GMAW) welding on structural steel and aluminum to AWS standards
Ensure all welds and fabricated components meet project quality standards, structural tolerances, and finish requirements
Conduct visual inspections and quality checks on finished work prior to shipping
Collaborate with engineers and project managers to ensure components are field-ready and meet design intent
Safely operate shop equipment including saws, grinders, drills, press brakes, and welding machines
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment in accordance with safety protocols
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Required
2+ years of hands-on experience in steel and/or aluminum fabrication
AWS Certified Welder — certifications covering structural steel (D1.1) and aluminum (D1.2) preferred
Proficiency in MIG welding on carbon steel and welding on aluminum
Ability to read and work from blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication specs
Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality fit, finish, and structural integrity
Reliable, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently in a shop environment
Preferred (Nice to Have)
Experience fabricating custom or one-off structural assemblies
Background in AV, display systems, entertainment, or venue/stadium construction
Familiarity with CNC plasma cutting, laser cutting, or press brake operation
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This is a hands-on fabrication role. Standard physical requirements for shop work apply, including:
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly; team lifts and mechanical assists available for heavier loads
Ability to stand for extended periods and work in various positions including kneeling, bending, and reaching
Comfortable working with heat, sparks, and standard shop PPE (welding helmet, gloves, safety glasses, etc.)
Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for precision fabrication work
WORK LOCATION & TRAVEL
This role is based full-time at our fabrication shop in Grand Forks, ND. Occasional travel to project sites (stadiums and arenas across the U.S. and Canada) is available for those who are interested, but it is completely optional — not required. If travel is something you enjoy, there's plenty of opportunity for it.
